A Father’s Day Reflection on Love and Grace
Greetings B. Well Family!
Happy fathers day!
Father’s Day has always been a little complicated for me.
My father, William Pinkney, is, to this day, one of the most brilliant men I have ever known. He is an incredible artist, deeply creative, and perhaps one of the most charismatic people I’ve ever met. I have always loved and admired him, and I always will.
But like many of us, he is also human.
He had his own struggles, his own demons, and his own journey to navigate. Loving him set me on a journey of my own—a journey of understanding myself, healing, and learning what I wanted and needed in my relationships with men. Along the way, I learned that love and complexity can coexist. That we can honor people for their gifts while acknowledging their humanity. Now that he has passed away, we are safely in positive relationship.
And somehow, all of it—the beautiful parts and the difficult parts—helped shape the woman I am today.
I wouldn’t change a thing.
Because every lesson, every joy, every disappointment, and every moment of grace brought me exactly where I needed to be.
So today, I celebrate fathers.
I celebrate the fathers who got it right and the fathers who are still learning. The fathers who showed up perfectly and the fathers who showed up imperfectly. The men who gave us examples to follow and the men who gave us lessons that led us toward growth and healing.
Fatherhood, like life, is a journey.
And grace belongs to all of us.
Happy Father’s Day to the dads who are loving well, learning as they go, and leaving their mark in ways both big and small.
With love,
Adrianne
