Enjoy the Journey
As someone known for action, I often found myself rushing through the milestones of starting my own business, driven by a "get it done now" mentality. However, a pivotal insight from my sister circle reminded me to "enjoy the journey," transforming my approach to life and work. This shift allowed me to appreciate the small victories and understand that slowing down can be just as productive as speeding through tasks. Join me as I share how embracing patience has enriched my personal and professional life, helping me grow and thrive unexpectedly.
The Power of Vulnerability
Last week at a mindfulness workshop in Durham, a seemingly trivial chat about the weather with fellow professionals became a profound connection over shared childhood experiences. This unexpected moment of vulnerability led to a heartfelt "me too" exchange, highlighting the transformative power of sharing and receiving personal stories. As a coach, these moments reinforce the importance of vulnerability in fostering genuine connections and healing for myself and those I guide.
Lessons from the Storm
As hurricane season unfolds, it’s a potent reminder of the storms we encounter, from the literal to the symbolic. Storms, while disruptive, are influential teachers. They bring communities together, change our behaviors, test our foundations, and teach us about resilience. Understanding the lessons storms teach can help us navigate the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges, transforming turmoil into opportunities for growth and deeper connection.
The Friendships we Choose
During a tumultuous period in my life, I surrounded myself with friends who mirrored my messy behaviors—from enabling to dishonesty. Yet, as I embarked on a journey of personal growth, the dynamics of these friendships began to change. I gravitated toward those who inspired and supported my quest for a better self, and gradually, my circle evolved. This transition was about finding new friends, transforming existing relationships, and discovering communities that fostered my development, like my Sister Circle and Al-Anon.

B. Well Celebrates One Year!
Last year, driving down 77 South in my Jeep named "Juicy," inspiration struck through my "Jesus Jamz" playlist. In a moment of clarity, I realized my life's mission was to support others in creating more loving lives. Despite facing the hardships of unemployment and relying on food stamps, I felt a surge of determination. This calling led me to start B. Well, transforming both my life and the lives of those around me. This is how a vision, shared passionately with friends and family, evolved into a thriving coaching practice.
Thoughts on Independence
Independence Day sparked some thoughts about the broader implications of independence in our society. While autonomy is celebrated, especially in empowering women, it's crucial to understand the stages of maturation—dependency, independence, and interdependence. Actual growth involves moving beyond self-sufficiency to embrace interdependence, where collective strengths foster personal and community success. This post explores why interdependence, not independence, should be our ultimate goal, challenging the notion that needing nothing from anyone is a sign of strength.
Keeping Yourself Safe
During my tenure as a Dean of Students, I encountered young children who struggled to express complex emotions, often resulting in outbursts of anger or sadness. This experience deepened my understanding of human behavior and reinforced the importance of maintaining personal safety while offering support. Whether dealing with a child in a meltdown or an adult grappling with destructive behaviors, the key is to provide support from a safe distance, ensuring mutual respect and well-being. Learn how these insights can help us manage relationships with self-destructive individuals more effectively.

How To Feel Your Feelings
Your feelings matter. Your ability to tune in to your feelings allows you to make the right decisions for your life. Healthy relationships feel good; bad relationships feel bad. Doing the right thing feels good; doing the wrong thing feels bad. However, none of this will affect you if you cannot feel at all.
