Lessons From My Storage Unit
Spring cleaning season is here, and I have a story to share—I recently took on a project I had avoided for years: my storage unit.
Actually, if I’m being honest... two storage units.
For three years, I paid $120 a month for each one. In my mind, those units were filled with things I thought I'd use someday—furniture for an Airbnb, décor for a new house, gifts for friends. I convinced myself they were valuable. That they were worth holding onto. That one day they would come in handy.
But life changes. Plans shift.
And when I finally opened those units, I realized something powerful—and a little painful:
The things I had been holding onto had lost their value.
Not just financially (although yes, financially too)—but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
The cost of clinging to the past had been adding up every single month. And after three years of payments, there was nothing inside those units that justified the price I had paid.
What a waste of time. What a waste of money.
Now, I’m selling those items for $5, $10, $20—small amounts compared to what I thought they were "worth" when I packed them away.
And honestly?
It feels like freedom.
Here's what clearing out my storage unit taught me:
✨ Sometimes it’s easier (and wiser) to let go than to hold on.
✨ Holding onto things for “someday” can cost you peace, energy, and money today.
✨ When you release what no longer serves you, you create space for something better.
✨ Even if you need something again, you’ll find it again—aligned with who you are now.
We often think we're protecting ourselves by clinging to the past—whether it's possessions, relationships, habits, or outdated dreams. But sometimes, we're just carrying
unnecessary weight that keeps us from stepping fully into the present.
Let my storage unit lesson be a blessing to you.
Ask Yourself
What am I holding onto out of fear, guilt, or habit?
What "someday" items or ideas cost me more than they’re worth?
Where do I need to make space for new growth, joy, and opportunities?
Spring is about renewal. About blooming. About breathing lighter.
So, this season, I invite you to do some spring cleaning—not just in your closets but also in your heart and mind.
Let it go. And let it go now.
Because what’s ahead of you is far greater than what you’re afraid to leave behind.
Here’s to clearing space and making room for miracles.
With love and fresh new beginnings,
